Every Christmas Eve, my sisters and I begrudgingly take on the task of lighting the luminaries. It is our family tradition that stems all the way back from when my mom was a young girl in Buffalo. We line the sidewalk with luminaries as a way to welcome the birth of Jesus. We light the candles around 9pm and wait to see which candles last until Christmas morning. Christmas Eve always turns out to be a freezing night where our fingers freeze and a majority of the candles burn out as soon as the luminaries are set. As much as I complain, I love it and will most definitely make my own kids do it.
I got into Cleveland last night, delayed about 3 hours because of the weather. I swear, I can never plan it right. I got at the airport suppppeeer early about 3 hours early thinking I would have to fight with the huge lines, but there were none! So I was there way early and then had to wait because of the delay. So that was my typical airport experience.
I updated my flickr page w/ thesis images, much that were already on this blog.
Merry Christmas!
Global Warning comes to an end...
...well just at Parsons, that is. Today was our final day of thesis and everyone brought in their work. The last two weeks were hell, but I think it all paid off. I can now exhale a big sigh of relief. I want to thank my mom, ed, amy, kate, maria, adge, and my roommates katie and lauren for all their support through this semester. Only a few more days until Cleveland. In the mean time, I am just catching up with boring things like laundry, but then going to be doing more things like christmas shopping, going to the Met to see the Gauguin paintings that have been off limits for the wing's renovation, and soaking up as much of the city before I jet off. Then my goal is to get my new site cut up and coded after I get back to the city in January. Much love to all!
Thesis layout
Bee time
Hey y'all. I have a new illustration to post tonight. It is for an article talking about how many different species of bees are starting to just disappear. One theory about their disappearance is due to pesticides. But some scientists just don't know where they are going. There are no signs. Hmmm....all this information right when The Bee Movie is coming out.
I am trying to get organized with my thesis. I have FOUR more pieces to do. Agh, I am drained already! I am about to order my largest panel, which is probably going to cost an arm and a leg. But, I think in the end it will be worth it. It will be the climactic ending to the narrative.
I opened the most recent letter from my mom to find the enclosed pictures of our dogs in their halloween costumes. I just find them hilarious. Max is a construction worker and Bailey has pearls and a poodle skirt as a 60s girl. It looks like a yamika on Max, but it's his construction hat. Hehe! I thought I would share something that made me happy!
A little treat for those trick or treaters....
Thesis Painting II: The Arrival
This is the second piece for my thesis. I am am about 2/3 done with the painting of the panel. I have been taking in-process pictures, so I will make sure to post those soon.
I have been feeling a little restless lately. I feel really restrained this semester with producing art. Yeah, I feel like I am going in a better direction with my thesis, but that is the pretty much the only work that I have been able to make so far. All my other classes are non-art producing (except my web class). It makes me a little sad :( But next semester I think I will be on art over-drive because I plan to take 4 art-producing classes which will allow me to do some projects that I have been itching to produce (think: extinct bird illos on stationary, maybe letterpress, some more sticker designs). I really want to start making things that people can buy. I just miss drawing alot! sick of the papers and motion graphics...sigh.
Little Paper Planes
We had a guest today in class, Kelly Lynn Jones, a fine artist out of California who founded Little Paper Planes. She was really inspirational and shared many great resources for us to use to produce prints, promotional items, and just for inspiration. Little Paper Planes serves as online shop where illustrators are able to sell their zines, prints, accessories, and clothing. ------>check it out

I am kinda getting tired, tired of school since we are in week 7 of 15....but Amy's recent visit gave me a what I was missing from my family back in Cleveland. I was in this weird funk...but I think I am back to normal and more excited about my work. Yep. Kelly Lynn's presentation got me reinspired. Well thesis calls...
http://www.caat.be/
I was searching the internet for illustrators and happened upon this illustrator, caat, whose work really was exciting to me! She has such an assortment of areas on her website that are equally interesting. I got a kick out of the flash area and the tshirts.
Landscape (Painting I) for thesis
Airplane flight animation
This animation is created by sequencing still images, so basically they are jpegs butted up one after another in After Effects. Turn on your music and enjoy.
It's been a while
...it seems like I have been slacking on the updating for a while. But trust me, there are lot of things coming to fruition behind the scenes. I started my first painting for thesis last week, have been grappling with motion graphics, as well as trying to redesign a new improved portfolio website that is more user friendly than the one I have live now. I'll try to get some more fresh images up here soon!
This is something for non-thesis. We had to include three objects in one image: a cat, an oar, and a electrical tower thing. Well, this is what I came up with. I was kind of fascinated with the idea of taxidermy, something that I just couldn't fathom doing...and I just went with it and combined it with this laboratory scene. I had fun with it.
Pictures from the Reception
Tire pollution piece
I finished this awhile ago, but forgot to post it.
Thank you!
Thank you to all who came to my closing reception last night at Klatch! The night felt like it would never come, but with the start of school approaching, it was a perfect ending to my summer that brought together all of my favorite people. It was really great to be surrounded by a great group of friends!
