the week my family came to visit. part one.
This week has been everything I have been looking forward to during the last 4 years. My family is coming to ny twice, once for my show and then again for graduation the following week.
We started out with a trip to brooklyn brewery. fun times.
But before that, we went to max brenner for lunch.
and i was given these nasty lookin' pickles. people who know me, know that i hate pickles, never had them, never will.
Even the bus boy asked if Ed was Max's bald cousin.
then we went to see the statue of liberty up close and personal.
then ellis island museum
i had to include some cleveland love.
The two pictures above is the registry room, where all the immigrants would wait in line, have their examinations, basically pass the time. The one on top is the one today, and the picture below is what it used to look like. The museum was definitely a learning experience, and provided a lot of inspiration. They had really interesting old typefaces on pamphlets, they showed the clothing they brought in massive trunks, and they had beautiful bibles and torahs. I would recommend it highly.
i'll post more on flickr in a few days...
For those of you wonderin' what I have planned after May 16th (aka graduation), I was offered an internship at Gap here in New York. I will be working on the Graphics on Kids and Toddler clothing. I am really excited for this 10 week program, which starts In early June. These are my favorite Graphic T's on the site now. And, what am I doing after that? Well, I am taking it one day at a time.
This week has been a whirlwind. I have been trying to wrap up all my assignments before my family comes in on Saturday.
I've accomplished:
-3 color silkscreen print, edition of 8
-sewed a whale
-wrote a paper
-updated my site

I got a profile on Coroflot.com. My friend Anastasia told me about the site for portfolios. More exposure couldn't hurt.
Thanks Parson's illustration blog for the shout out :)
Super Cool Toys
I swear, I must have the best family ever. Ever.
I was talking to my mom about this project that I am doing and wanted to put illustrations on building block toys, like the ones we all play with as kids. Well, my mom got thinking and realized that we probably still had them in our house somewhere. And what do you know it, Ed goes up into the storage roof of our garage and finds our old block toys. Ed got them down, my mom packaged them, and here they are today!! I am so pumped about them. It brings me back to when I would play on our scratchy raspberry-colored carpet zooming cars around.
I got so excited, I made a little narrative.
"It was a normal day waiting for the bus.
A dog and a high heel are standing passing the time.
Ms. High Heel notices Mr. Dog.
Mr. Dog notices Ms. High Heel.
So she walks over. Says hello.
And they wait for the bus together. "
The End.
Wanting to Sew
Latest on purlbee.com this wonderful quilted blanket. I love it.
It is by Molly, I am not sure of her last name to give her credit, but check out Molly's Sketchbook on the site for more projects by her. I really have been wanting to embroider and quilt my illustrations lately. I think my quilting genes are kicking in now. My mom was quilting when she was pregnant with me so, I think I am naturally inclined to do so. Plus my Aunt Donna makes some gorgeous quilts. In the mean time, I have been mulling over ideas for after graduation projects.
Happy Thursday!
drawing moustaches
I am making a book about moustaches that will be printed from lulu.com. I drew portraits of different dudes with moustaches (or beards). To put a twist on it, I am going to be making up the names that the guys call their moustaches. This naming part won't come until I get the book back from lulu. Then, when I get it back, I am going to die-cut the names into the pages. Yes, untraditional, but also unexpected. I will show more pics once I get the book printed.

Happy Easter!

2. an awesome skateboard that will be a complex composition of animals that I have been dying to do
3. freelance CD Cover design
4. self-published book from lulu...topic is unknown right now
5. a poster design to create awareness about the events that are going on in Africa
...this is a sketch that I did last night ... reminds me of myself in my school uniform when i was younger

Missing the Midwest
I felt the need to post something because I haven't posted any artwork in a while it seems. I had to create a sticker set in my Beyond Editorial class. I have been feeling for my hometown region a lot lately, maybe because I am homesick, so I used the Midwest states for it.
I think it would be great fun to make the entire United States in some sort of pick and stick game for kids.
A new week awaits me!
Things are going much better.
I was asked 2 weeks ago to do an illustration for American Way magazine, so I was busy working on that last week. It was one of those weeks when something was due in every class and then with the outside work, it was pretty tense. I'll post the American Way illustration soon, but just want to get the okay before I do. I can't wait to graduate!!
Also, I bought my ticket to go home for Cleveland for spring break. I wasn't planning on going home, but I was feeling really run-down last week. I think some good home relaxation will help me out. I'm looking forward to a good St. Patrick's Day celebration in good old C-town. I haven't seen the parade since highschool, so I am super pumped! Bring on the green beer.
i am not not not not not looking forward to this week.
ive got a full plate of assigments, a freelancing project, and a presentation all this week.
i had to get that out. thanks!
