"I like it in the city when two worlds collide"
adele. hometown glory.
something about that lyric and how she breathes it out stopped me in my tracks this week...very fitting for me right now.
a life update
These past 2 weeks have been quite a whirlwind, but, gotta say, I've had a blast.
I have to back track a bit...hold tight:
-went home to Cleveland for 4-day quick trip (finally taking advantage of my PTO yay!)
-while home, went to Put-in-Bay, an island in Lake Erie
-while home, also went up to Buffalo to visit my grandma
-came back to NYC
-celebrated Amy's 29th birthday
-Adrienne came to visit
-met up w/ our cousin Steve who came to NYC for business
To start somewhere....
I had dinner w/ my old friends...
Yep, these are my two best friends that go back to my highschool days.
Maria & Adrienne
Then Next day went up to Buffalo, NY to visit my Grandma.
This is in Seneca, NY. I love the yellows and reds of the indian reservation's signs and this guy, a Indian chief statue (sorry relatives, I do not know exact details of this statue, only that I love taking a picture of it when I come in)
One of the beautiful farms in Eden, NY.
I love coming here because such interesting things to shoot in the car...passed up this tractor.
The day after Buffalo, was girl's weekend in Put-in-Bay.
The dogs were in the car while mom dropped me off at Maria's. It felt like highschool days again.
We drove out to PIB in the raining downpour
...but after a few hours it turned out really beautiful
This is at the Perry monument on Put-in-Bay (Adge's great great great great great bla blah great uncle)
Winery on PIB
Heading back into downtown Cleveland
Got back and had to throw my stuff in my bags, say farewell to my mom and get to Hopkins to wait for a couple of hours (my flight was delayed, typical).
Now back in NYC:
Amy's 29th Birthday Aug 14th, had a great dinner at Sotto Cinque on 86th St.
Then Adrienne came into town the following Sunday!
Here are pics from her trip here:
Dinner in Tribeca w/Adge and Steven, my cousin, from Buffalo.
At Bubby's in Tribeca (good choice Amy!) Thanks for dinner Steve. Delicious!
Blurry mamacitas
At Sweetiepie on Greenwich St. This is becoming my favorite restaurant to take the girls.
Mini Icecream Cones w/ Mini Sprinkles...what is cuter than this?
Adrienne and I had a romantic last dinner over candlelight and was impressed by Jesse, our waiter's gracious charm to hit on us ladies...very smooth.
That is it, it seems. My flickr will be updated in a few days w/ more pics. I will post here soon, I have somethings up my sleeve...Until then...got Bridget's & Josh's wedding to look forward to on the 5th of September in Buffalo.
Woohoo another Kerwin wedding!
xo
Happy 7 Years Mom & Ed
I want this shirt badly:
Lovely isn't it?
Found this fantastic french company, Coq en Pate, when I was researching at work for Back To School ideas.
Deep down in my 8 year-old-self, I wish I was going back to school in the fall with my freshly sharpened pencils to put in un sac pour des stylos. Aha, I just learned the translation for pencil case, trousse.
only places in the US that carry Coq en Pate:
pomme in BK
kisan in soho
gotta check those stores out
An excerpt from an article about looking at art at the Louvre, but can be applied to pretty much any museum setting:
"...[T]ourists now wander through museums, seeking to fulfill their lifetime’s art history requirement in a day, wondering whether it may now be the quantity of material they pass by rather than the quality of concentration they bring to what few things they choose to focus upon that determines whether they have “done” the Louvre. It’s self-improvement on the fly."
view it all here.
I'll go to Kansas City...
...if I could meet Fats Domino. Or rather, I would love to meet him where he lives New Orleans. I love oldies. :)
Me, but not really
@ the met
The Peasant Girl with a White Head Cloth by Wilhelm Leibl, german painter 1885.
When I went to the met on Sunday, I saw a painting that I had to take a picture of. Why? Well, when I was a Junior I had to recreate it in photoshop(with the help of my teacher who took the original photo of me). I had to make an original photo look as painterly as the real painting. I thought the girl and I had a similar nose and was pale like me, so that's what got me interested in it when I was scoping out the Met website a few years back. What do you think?
original photo of me sans photoshop
background added w/ some lighting accents
final version w/ face, veil, and shirt done (me looking like I'm painted)
Great weekend!
It's thunderstorming here, now, here in New York. Kinda a nice way to clean away the weekend and refresh us from the intense mugginess we have been experiencing this past week.
And also a nice time for me to recap the great weekend I had with my sister, Kate + her old friend Sarah, coming to visit from Cleveland.
We had such fabulous weather for all the fun stuff we had planned.
Dinner on our terrace
Yankees vs. A's game
all the NY Yankee legends on one side as you walk in:
Woa! Just noticed the comb-over on that dude!
Sarah and I went into the Yankees museum and they had some really great memorabilia from the 1920's. The design of patches, numbers, posters, and tickets was the most interesting to me.
Really cool patch on their Vintage Centennial uniforms. I had to get this shot to show the guys at work. (they've been doing a lot of patches for summer 2010).
Amy asked to hold the 'How May I Help You?' sign. Of course she would.
Kate took pictures for me at Crumbs for my 'sweet treats' section for flickr. Yum.
Pigeon Lady on e. 9th and 1st
Got a picture infront of my baggie at Dime Bag 3 yo!
Looked at the stores next to Giant Robot.
Group shot w/ Seth and Rachael included
The BEST picture of the entire weekend. Hand's down.
More of the weekend's pics are here.
I ended the weekend with a trip to the Met to look at the Michelangelo painting that I blogged about here. Super amazing upclose. It's kinda got the same affect as the Mona Lisa, you think it's (or rather hope) gunna be huge, but then it's really small and everyone crowds around it to look really close. I was that person. I didn't want to move once I got infront of it.
On another note, whenever I go, I have to say hello to my favorites:
Gauguin, Two Women. 1899.
Gauguin, Ia Orana Maria, 1891.
Phew, that's it. Have a great week. I'm working on some new stuff for 'From Jupiter,' another Tshirt design. SO I hope to have some art to post by Friday. Check back!
These are so gorgeous to me!
Found out about orangepoppy through one of my favorite blogs rockstar diaries
...And here is the info for the GRNY Dime Bag 3 show:

i love this song. something about these girls, some who can dance and some who seriously are trying really hard, make it hilarious.
please wait for 1:23, it's the funniest part.
Uh oh, Bill Cunningham is now instructing us to Spaahkle this Fouth of July...
spaahkle time
It's been a year since my family lost my Grandpa Kerwin. I still miss what a great man he was. And I try to keep different things that I was able to inherit from him in my room to inspire me. These things are truly what makes my room/studio such a great inspiration to me:
wooden drawer chest that has paint splattered from years worth of projects in his basement.
the drawing I did just over a year ago from his navy picture
his old camera (he loved taking pictures...we couldn't leave Buffalo without taking a family picture on their lawn)
his 'kerwin' stencil he probably used to label trash cans and other stuff that needed marking.
one of his drawing tools (he was an engineer)
There's a lot of my Grandpa's possessions that I was able to inherit that I am so glad I was able to have. I think it may not be much to other people in my family, but I know he worked with these objects that in some sense or another gave him inspiration, and it inturn inspires me to keep doing what I love to do.
NYC apartment hunting...
...is totally exhausting. Doorman? laundry? gym included? build a wall? etc.
I think my sister and I are almost there. We are looking on the Upper East Side. I'll keep you posted. Might sign a lease tomorrow.
But here's a break we took after looking at apartments to get a bite to eat at Effy's.
This dog was sniffing my avocado sandwich.
Alphabets...on going series
I love alphabets, so I am starting an ongoing series of different alphabets with different themes. First one, CHEESE. My favorite!
