Putting up Smog and Smokestacks
Well, I am beginning to recover from putting up my show this past Saturday and all the festivities that went along with its opening. My sister came in from Cleveland on Friday, my show went up Saturday, and Sunday brought in my two best friends from Cleveland and the farewell of my sister. I couldn't have been able to put up my show without the help and support of my sister, Kate, and my two roomies, Lauren and Katie. They were fantastic with helping me bring down my 8 wooden panels and lending a keen eye to make sure the paintings were hung straight. THANK YOU! And also a thank you to Adge and Maria, who came out from Cleveland to see my show. It is such a nice feeling to have people that I have grown up with, come out to NYC to be able to see how much I have grown since my high school art years.
Last but not least, thanks to my family back in Cleveland, who sent me beautiful flowers to celebrate my opening. It all started with their support back in highschool, and of course, buying me those expensive art supplies for Sr. Lucia's class ;) . Thank you!
For any one new to seeing my work that picked up one of my postcards at Klatch, welcome! And thanks for checking out my blog. I hope you will frequent my blog and website often to see new work that I put up.
And for those of you haven't been to Smog and Smokestacks, go to:
Klatch coffee shop...9 Maiden Lane in the Financial District (just south of Fulton)
and my closing reception Thursday August 30th 5-7pm. Light appetizers will be provided and drinks can be purchased.

Gauguin paintings
Have you ever had one of those moments where you turn the corner of a museum and are just completely giddy with excitement to see the one painting you have always loved? I had one of those moments at Musee d'Orsay, where I just was in complete shock of the Gauguin paintings. He has always been my favorite painters since highschool due to his bold use of color. The Tahitian women have especially always captured my attention especially the one at the Met. I think the colors he incorporates into the skintones of the women is just breathtaking. Unfortunately two of his most famous paintings that I really looked forward to seeing were on exhibition in Seoul Korea. Hmmm....well, that gives me a reason to plan a trip back to France in the near future just so that I can see the two that I missed. Of all the artwork that I have been lucky to view during my time in Paris, the Gauguin paintings have had the largest impact on me.
Montemartre drawings
Today started off magnificently well with the cutest pastry ever in a star shape with a star shaped paper wrapper. It was just as good as it was cute. We sat around and drew for a while. I was intrigued by the motorbikes across the way in front of the post office.
Later on, we went to the Montmartre cemetary where Foucault, Degas, just to name a few, are buried.
Work Here in Paris
Perspective Drawing: Class 4
Thursday was kind of obnoxious, it was raining and still cold in Paris. This kind of weather is nothing like we had all anticipated when packing. We went to some square, I think it was called the Palais Rouge, but am not positive. We drew in the square for about 2 hours and then went to a cafe to draw some more before heading to the Centre Pompidou. The Centre Pompidou gave our group a hard time every time we tried to go in or out to go to lunch or just to get to another level. Overall, Thursday was not that great.
But it did get better because Liz, Barbara and I went to a cafe to do our perspective drawing homework in a little area near Notre Dame.

day 3
On Wednesday, we went to the Natural History Museum. It was like I stepped into one of those old African hunting lodges with the dark, musky wood, very dark inside, and absolutely beautiful. The animals are just gorgeous. I made a huge language error when I was at the museum though, saying "j'ai trente et un" to the security guard, meaning "I am thirty one." The guy couldn't believe me and I just kept going, "Oui, j'ai trente et un" thinking I was really saying " I am twenty one"... o well, I learned my lesson.
Day 2 of School
On Tuesday it was rough because it was raining and with that and no sleep = migraine. But I had to work through that and just go to school and suck it up. I am still getting used to having to either push a button to open the metro doors or open it with a lever, something that does not exist in NYC. But anyways, because of the rain we spent the entire day at petit Palais drawing contour lines of thing throughout the museum. I drew this really ornate staircase for the first half of our class. Then the second half, from 1-4 I drew this statue which was just so captivating to me. I am sorry for the crappy images of my drawings, i will try try try to put better photos up of them.
Day 1 of School
On Monday we had orientation for the first half of the day. The second half of the day we met up with our class and ventured out into the city. Our class walked from Parsons Paris to the Eiffel Tower to draw at the base of it. We were working on negative space drawings. We were soon ushered out of the area due to some "bomb threats" as told by the police.
The beginning...
Pardon moi for looking a little jet-lagged and like a bum, but after a 8 hour flight and no bags, your smile would seem a little contrived. This is my room at the Fondation Suisse in the Cite Universitaire. The Fondation Suisse was designed by Corbusier. The other pictures at the very end are the main 'quad' area of Cite Universitaire. Really pretty grounds. I really am happy w/ my room and the private shower and sink. The clothing in my bed in the one picture is the only clothes I had for 3 days. Pretty rough beginnings
In Paris
I have been in Paris for 4 days now, the first three days without my bag of clothes, toiletries, and shoes. My first few days here were pretty rough, running around in an unfamiliar city to buy the things I needed: clothes, shampoo, underwear, anything and everything. A have met a lot of great people here, a lot of kind people who have lent me computer chargers, morning wake up calls, shampoo, etc etc etc.
Things have been busy with the start of school here. I go to school 9-4 everyday M-F. I am going to try to take pictures of my drawings when there is better light out. But in the mean time, I will put up oodles of picture for you to enjoy!! I miss you all back in the states! xoxo
