meet me at the park
so, what's been up?
Compared to how things use to be during school, I feel like I have finally been able to live to the fullest extent over the last few weeks. Things have been busy but pretty awesome!
my two chicas from highschool came to visit.
went all over except down in the sewer to highfive the rats.
then one of my work friends had a bon appetit photo shoot at her place. Her and her husband will be having a 6 page spread in the holiday issue out in nov/dec. The theme was old world glamour, so we all got out our gloves, furs, glitzy holiday dresses to play the part. Look for me!!!!!! My red high heels might make the cut into the magazine.
It was interesting to see how the stylist set up everything from the different plates to the fabric napkins with embroidery to the equally-thick sliced bread. As well as seeing the makeup artist go to work and the hairdresser who made everyone look 'old-world glamour' fabulous.
An Ode to Color
I find that I am in a red phase now. I open my closet and a good majority of it is red, red with polka dots, red with stripes, it's more of a tomato red, like the red of your first tube of red lipstick when you are a freshman in highschool, when you don't know any better but then realize it when you look back at those dance photos once you are in college. Anyways, seems like a lot of people are wearing more color these days:
It's all about 'callah' here in new york this time of year.
From the sartorialist
He is a genious. His blog is an inspiration and helps when i have to draw people with up-to-date clothes. The pictures are impeccable and the people are gorgeous.
This is total deliciousness.
This is genious, palettes inspired by the genious.
Time Out New York
This week has met me with a string of challenges.
They put up my Tricky Wiki illo online here at GO magazine.
Sometimes, I wish I could go back to when I was in 8th grade and went to our Catholic school 'Mixers'.
If anyone knows where I can find some striped leggings like hers in the video, tell me asap.
New Work
I got inspired from reading an article in the New York Times about how some newly minted gay marriages have ended in divorce. I wanted to make an image that could be read both ways, similar to my queen of hearts playing card.
I also updated the site with oodles of new work, well 5 new pieces, some of which have been on my blog already, but it's updated. So don't dawdle, and go look at it :)
Current Update:
-got a few more weeks, well, actually 3 to be exact, at the Gap in the graphics department (I can't wait to see the tshirts out next summer---you have got to go out and buy some)
-have a kinda big project on the horizon, but not sure i can fully disclose any definite information
-looking for a job/keeping my fingers crossed that I can freelance at the gap
-getting my home organized and furnished (more photos to come)
-just enjoying being out of school
-looking for freelance illustration jobs, need anything? let me know lindseybalbierz@gmail.com
Some Extra Joy
This made me so happy! It took my breath away. I had to post it!
I have been working on a lot of boys graphics at the Gap the past 2 weeks, and looked online to see what this season looks like and I got the greatest surprise. That Baby Accessories Dept. sure knows what they are doing. So cute.
Now who wouldn't want one of these?

Haven't Written in a While
Yes. That's right. I haven't written in a while because I haven't had internet at my new place (major bummer), have been working 9-6 at the Gap everyday, moved from one end of Manhattan to the opposite, was workin' on a freelance job (which I may post soon), and got the sad news on Saturday that my beloved grandpa passed away on Saturday evening. Needless to say, I haven't had the time, or the ability, and now my heart really isn't in the right place to make a 'regular' post.
While my grandpa wasn't doing better or getting any younger, the news still hit me hard. And I it still hasn't really hit me, I think I am in shock. His passing came one day before my grandparent's 63rd wedding anniversary, so it was bittersweet. He was the best. Tomorrow morning, I am leaving on a flight to Buffalo for the wake and funeral. I am bringing with me the drawing I did of him awhile ago in a nice wooden frame. I am framing one for me and one for him. Two in all. One will be mine and the other one will be with him. A limited edition of sorts. My grandma insists that we don't wear black at the funeral because my grandpa hated when us ladies wore black.
"Why wear black when there are so many other beautiful colors?" he once said. I agree. So I am going home after work and picking out the most colorful dress I own...xo Grandpa thanks for the memories.
Design Taxi
Preeti Jalan, from DesignTaxi.com emailed me a bit ago to submit my work for their online portfolio community. It took me a while to get back to her because of end of school, but I submitted images to her, and it is now up! You can see it here on the main page since it was just posted. Thanks Preeti for the invitation!
I gotta place....
...in harlem. And I'm moving in about 2 weeks. So sad to see such a large sum of money go so quickly.... :(
Work Ties...
My co-worker/supervisor at the Slide Collection, Kate Gilliam, asked me to do a tshirt design for her non-profit gardening group, Trees Not Trash. They do marvelous things in Bushwick (which is in Brooklyn for those readers outside of New York City area).
Trees Not Trash transforms areas of Bushwick into wonderful green areas with all sorts of flowers and trees. The tshirt is one of their main fundraisers to keep making Bushwick more green. I will let you know where/when these tshirts can be bought! Thanks again Kate!
While I am speaking of my coworkers, this weekend is Mocca, and fine illustrator and fellow slide scanner, Cat Lauigan will be there selling her totally killer zines. She has put together an awesome silkscreened zine, Cateyez, that she will be selling at table B45. She also graciously is putting out my postcards for people to pick up. I'm gunna go and so should you. Thanks Cat!
