Our Wedding Details

My fiance and I got hitched this June. Hooray! With limited time and energy between a job and freelance work, I focused on projects that I knew I could handle. I needed to avoid a total bridal meltdown! Some of those projects were our invite, our wedding favors (which also served as our table assignments), as well as signage for the event.

For our invitation, I illustrated the front, the inside map, as well as the assets used throughout the invite. My fiance worked on the inside typography and layout. We decided on a limited color palette of black and yellow to ensure a minimal use of ink. We printed the invitation suite on our own and wanted to avoid buying tons of ink cartridges. Plus the color palette kinda screamed "NYC" to me. Taxis, stoplights, black and white cookies, oh my!

FINAL1_front_BALBIERZWEB Oh, here's a fun gif of our invite. :)

BALBIERZ_INVITE4_WEB600 FINAL2_front_BALBIERZWEB3 With the signage, I used the same illustration from the invite and added directional information for the venue.

BALBIERZ_WEDDING_WEB5 For the table assignments, it was important to me that they were both functional for the event, but also useful after the wedding. So, I decided on illustrating notepads that would have the table assignments written on them, but could also be used afterwards for list making or note taking. I had a lot of fun illustrating this whimsical NYC scene.

BALBIERZ_WEDDING_WEB To complete this favor, I bought some adorable pencils from Knot & Bow that were engraved with adorable food pairings. Mac & Cheese, Meat & Potatoes, Pancakes & Syrup!

BALBIERZ_WEDDING_WEB3 New York City is bracing for mega blizzard 2015 to strike tonight, so I finally had a minute to play catchup with my blog. Please stay safe wherever you may be. And thank you for reading about our wedding details. I hope to share some photos from the wedding in the next few weeks. Take care!

Wedding Season

Before I left for Japan,  I completed a quick-turn-around job illustrating a sign for a wedding.Sam, the bride, was a previous co-worker of mine at American Eagle. I was so humbled when she asked me to illustrate something for her big day!

Sam was looking for an illustrated sign that would sit on the favor table and would tie back to their handmade granola favor. The granola recipe was her mother-in-law's, so Sam wanted to make sure her MIL was mentioned on the sign. I think it is a cute idea and gives a nod of appreciation to her new in-law.

Congratulations Sam and Nick!

It's the start of wedding season! If you have an idea for your wedding that includes illustration, I would be happy to bring it to life!

Bridal Shower Invite

I'm happy to see that the work I did for Petit Alma, Manhattan-based stationary line, is now available online. I worked on the illustrated part and hand-drawn type for this bridal shower invite. This design can be purchased and personalized on Wedding Paper Divas. This is the online design that has been formatted with customizable type for personalization.

This is the final artwork I sent to Petit Alma. I'm really happy with how it turned out! I have one design in Petit Alma's Holiday assortment, so I will be sure to share when it is up on their site! Thanks to the great ladies at Petit Alma for this great project!

Branding: Todd H Carlson Weddings

This February through March, I worked on a branding project for Todd H Carlson Weddings.I met Todd when he was my sister's wedding photographer in September. Let me say, Todd did a great job rolling with the punches of the inclemate weather that occurred on my sister's wedding day.

But, back to the project. We worked through a few rounds of sketches and in the end, we decided on a logo with a serif, hand-done font, with watery elements of gouache. For the images used on the main pages of his website, Todd wanted me to incorporate some organic, painted elements that were reminiscent of platinum printing. I added some brushed details to his bio photo (just below) and his testimonial photo (4th image below). All in all, I think it's a really nice touch.

I adapted his logo into a horizontal format and added gouache elements for his blog header.

In addition to developing the logo for his portfolio, blog, Facebook and Twitter, I had the logo made into a stamp at Casey's Rubber Stamps on E. 11th street in the city. Todd will be stamping these guys directly onto the CD packaging for his clients.

I wrapped up the stamps and sent them off to Todd for his keeping.

These are the final promotional pieces that Todd sent to me. Including a business card with a full bleed on the back side, the CD packaging, and his promotional postcard.

Todd is great photographer in Cleveland and would be a great for shooting your wedding, engagement or new baby pictures. Check out his work here. And, again, thanks Todd for collaborating on this project with me!

If anyone is looking for a rebrand of their business, I would be happy to talk!

Reverie Magazine

My past client, Sarah, emailed me Friday night saying that she and her husband's wedding is currently featured in UK-based wedding magazine, Reverie. See my previous posts about this fun project here and here. I was so excited to see that their wedding was in the publication, and the table placard illustrations were also featured in there too.

Kate + Bret wedding invites

As I noted before, I designed my sister and her fiance's wedding invitation suite.

We wanted to keep the colors simple so that she could print them out herself to cut down on costs. Her fiance is a major fisherman, so Kate approached me to take the idea of 'kissing fish' and run with it.

Her full suite included the actual invite, reception info, lodging (accomodations), navigation (directions) as well as the response card. My mom also requested an invite for the brunch the following day. Both the invitation suite + brunch had an accompanying map with corresponding info-graphics.

This project was so fun to work on with my sister!

Congratulations Kate + Bret!

Wedding Favors

I had the great pleasure of designing the wedding invitation suite for my sister and her fiance. Their wedding was last weekend, so I am finally back to New York and assembling pictures of all the little details we worked on together.

One of those details, was the wedding favor. My sister and my mom made 160+ homemade apple pies as the wedding favors (Yes, really, they made 160 pies over 2 days of baking. And yes, they were delicous!). So, I designed a sticker for their jars that had their wedding logo incorporated.

Here are some snap shots of the cute little favors!

And here is a picture of my beautiful sister on our drive to the ceremony.

Stay tuned for pictures of their invitation suite later this week!

Wedding Table Placards

The lovely Sarah sent me a picture of how the table placards (previously posted here) were used in their wedding. You can see the New York City one right in front and the Atlanta one in the top left.

So lovely! I really like the flower arrangements too, so fresh and clean.

Thanks Sarah for sharing!

I've been enjoying drawing type lately.I bought a bunch of metallic pens at Kinokuniya last week and draw all over a huge black sheet and some colored envelopes. Check it out.

And hooray! Here is a sneak peek of the invites I designed for my sister & her fiance. More to show after the wedding!

Sarah + Joe's Wedding Table Placards

January through March of this year, I was working on a project for a lovely couple Sarah and Joe. I found the couple through the site where I am also a vendor, 100 Layer Cake.

Sarah + Joe were looking for an illustrator to make table placards illustrating the numerous locations that they have visited when they were dating. Sarah + Joe were dream clients, so fun and so open to what I had to suggest. The couple gave me a list of places, foods & items that meant something to them for each city. To personalize it a bit more, I asked for a short 1-liner to add into the banner for each city. In the end, I illustrated 19 cities that would be used on their 19 tables at their wedding. Each city will be for one table and be posted for their guests to find.

Thanks again Sarah + Joe. I hope you had a wonderful wedding yesterday!

Wedding ideas

I pulled this little mood board together for Kate's & Bret's wedding to get some ideas in the pot for when I do their invitation package.

Maybe they'll like it, maybe they'll hate it.

I just love doing these little projects.

Sorry, I only have a few photo sources for the above. If you know any, please post below :)
