The entrance of 2014 has pushed me to set some new goals for myself. One of them being to get back into blogging more. Whether it be about new illustration work or things I have been up to in New York City, I am trying to push myself to share more content with you folks. But before I jump into new goals for 2014, I wanted to thank you for a great 2013. To everyone who liked a post, every single person who bought something from my Etsy shop, and to the new friends I have made this year, I wanted to thank you from the rooftops!
And to recap the year, I decided to highlight 10 things that happened this year. Some things I posted here on the blog, some on my Facebook page, and some on Instagram, but a few I have kept pretty private.
To start off...
1 / I started the year off drawing A Car A Day.
2 / I went to the Westminster Kennel Club in February.
3 / My highschool interviewed me.
4 & 5 / Tom took me to Japan. I met his family and we got engaged in Okinawa.
6 / I took a trip to the NYC flower district.
7 / I illustrated my first map.
8 / I took a trip to the Fete Paradiso on Governors Island.
9 / My illustrator's feature was published in Uppercase Work/Life 3.
10 / My first illustrated map garners me a commission by Jamie Magazine.
Thank you for letting me share my illustration work. Your support means so much to me!
Sorry for the lack of postings lately. I moved to Williamsburg with my boyfriend and have been pretty tied up with couch buying, Ikea trips, Bed Bath & Beyond trips. We have some painting to get done, but the dust is starting to settle around here.
We got out to see Rainbow City created by Friends With You + AOL at 30th street and 10th avenue. It comes down this Tuesday, so make a trip before it's gone forever. Here are some of the pictures I took.
This guy on their store's site is awfully cute too.
Last Friday, I had the chance to leave work early and do something 'inspirational.'
I went to the Conservatory Gardens up on E 105th Street in Central Park. It's really gorgeous there right now.
Unfortunately, my trip was shortened when of my drawings got pooped on. Lucky me, or rather, lucky drawing.
Tom definitely found another way to my heart this weekend.
He surprised me with this little guy, which I blogged about here and here. It melted my heart.
So, on our brunch Sunday, I thought it might be funny if I had a 'birthday' and we put the new cupcake cutie to work.
And yes, they sang to me. (Hey, my 24 1/2 birthday is April 21st, so we weren't completely lying).
Tom and I went to M&M world on Sunday. I think I had too much fun with that store.
My favorite M&M is hard to say. I do think the Yellow one is funny, but I also like the Blue and the Red. I must have a thing for Primary Colors.
This one stand like my mom with both hands on her hips.
Clever!
You sure do Red.
Tom can't make up his mind...The princess mix or Mini M&M's?
I got some St. Patty's Day Mix!
You should go to! But maybe on a weekday afternoon when the tourists aren't swarming.
This weekend Adrienne came to visit and we had Cruz for the weekend. What a full weekend!
The two of them bonded in the short 3 days they were together. Seriously, they bonded (may seem like a stare-down here, but they were pretty fancy for each other).
Good drinks...
Good desserts and coffee!
Good milkshakes and burgers!
Not so good bowlers.
But had a good time trying.
And laughed all the time. I'm looking forward to May now!
Yes, we got our asses kicked this time around.
This storm was quite a storm indeed and Amy & I treked through it on our way from seeing the Vagina Monologues at MSSM.
Wednesday was a snow day for most of New York with the Blizzard that hit Tuesday night and continued all of Wednesday. [American Eagle is a really great company to work for, must say so myself].
I stayed inside and worked on graphics for 77kids for part of the day, but decided to venture out to say that at least I went outside once during it.
After a wonderful New Year's party at Mathilde's house (Mathilde's party had a theme: feathers & glitter, so simple, but made everyone look so chic to welcome in the New Year), Tom and I closed the night at Auction House on the UES.
Quite a gem. We're gunna try going back on a weeknight when it is a little bit emptier.
Love this snap of us :)
Last Sunday, Amy and I trekked up to the Bronx on the D train (oh D train, how I do not miss you since our old Harlem days) to go to the Fordham choir Christmas Concert at Fordham's church. It was a good way to get into the Christmas spirit.
Amy, her old college roommate, Erin, and I went to Palumbo's on Arthur Ave and had a few bites of heaven! Yum! Check out those pretty cookies!
This table next to us had the most adorable Italian couples having their regular Sunday night cannoli dessert and cappucinos. Wish I caught the moment when the husband was feeding his cannoli to his wife across the table. Such a sweet moment. Sigh.
But before I went to to meet up with Amy, Tom and I spent the morning at the Bust Craftacular on 18th street. I was there to see my co-worker, Nicola Druker, who was selling cute kids tees.
Some crafters really grabbed my attention.
SKT Painted Porcelain sells handcrafted porcelains. Such sweet and simple objects that sparked my interest. I hope she restocks her Etsy store after the holiday season.
And Thief and Bandit. Trully love the bright florescent colors and geometric graphic prints on these pieces. I wish she had as many pieces in her Etsy shop as were at the event. But still...love these pieces below.
HotGlow Fabric Necklace $39. here
Poncho T $30 here
Magenta Maze Fabric Necklace $39. here
Oh, and if I could recommend something, I would highly recommend the hot cocoa at Cupcake Cafe on 18th (it's in Books of Wonder, one of my faves!).
Sooooo good and made from teeny tiny bits of chocolate that dissolve in your mouth. Mmmmm.
How are you all doing with the Holidays approaching?
What gets you in the Holiday spirit?
How was your Thanksgiving everyone? I hope swell!
Amy and I caught the cross town bus through Central Park and made our way down to Tribeca to Kitchenette. Such a treat!
And somehow we made it back to Cleveland in the end. :)
Lots of love! xo
Work has been pretty grueling this last week, hence the lack of posts, and this week doesn't look any easier. We are trying to get all the Fall graphics out for kids, toddler and baby, an amount of graphics about x5's bigger than what we are used to. There is an end in sight or at least Thursday's off for Thanksgiving. Woohoo!
So I made sure to make the weekend count. I got to hang out with some of my favorite people.
You can definitely tell the holidays are approaching in the city. All office buildings have gorgeous trees in the lobby and I spotted such a cheerful weath on the bridge in Pershing Square on my walk to work. I'll try to snap a picture next time.
Sunday Tom and I met up for dessert...but before hand I got some fabric from one of my favorite stores. Purl. So small, but so cheerful. I'm planning on making something in the lines of this whale for christmas gifts.
The weather was oh so perfect this night. A clear view of the ESB from Once Upon A Tart just near Purl on Sullivan.
And, oh how wonderful it is to have someone special to plan trips to the ice skating rink. :)
Have a good week! Hope to write soon!
