Falls a comin'

The windows have been open in my room and a nice cool breeze has been coming in.
I can't help to feel that fall is on its way.
I can feel it in the air.

Can't wait.

And nothing like some cute white pumpkins to get y'all in the mood for sweaters and warm drinks. 'Cus I love fall. Remember?

[On a side note, when I was little, my mom would always tell me that white pumpkins lost their color because they were scared by ghosts. And I believed her. :) ]

And while I am in a white ghoulish mood, how about some cute skulls?
I find that these are cute enough for Halloween decor, not totally creepy, and not tacky (**big winner for me).

Target in Harlem

Today, Amy + I ventured up to East 116th in Harlem to check out the new and only Target (for now, at least) in Manhattan.

Instead of writing about the craziness that happened inside the store, I shall write about what pleased me to bits.

All of their marketing for the store is ILLUSTRATION! And I am just dying to know what illustrator got this awesome job. They, she, or him did such a swell job on it all!

Does anyone know? I thought that I might have heard about who did it on the illustration blogs I read, but nothings been said. :(

Everything from their printed ads, t-shirts of guys handing out the metro on the morning commute, to poles in the front part of the store, to a fully encapsulated 6 train (check out this article, Target paid $250,000 to cover no.6 trains for 6 weeks!!), all of it is drawn.

And you know the best part, they have a free shuttle that's from the store to 116th and Lex and 125th and Lex.

And of course, you called it, the free shuttle bus is covered in illustration too!

[Yes, that's Amy holding a huge 18 pack of Charmin ;) ]

[Happy and on the Target shuttle bus.]

Good for Target to use illustration!

ICON recap

Phew! Finally get a minute to talk about my ICON trip.

ICON was such a great experience, definitely worth the flights across the US.
I met a lot of great young illustrators that are starting out like me, as well as heard inspiring talks from the pros: Melinda Beck, Yuko Shimizu, Gary Taxali, and John Hendrix.

I learned about orphan works, design integrity, and the value of being different.
I learned about the importance of social media, of being memoriable, and of always producing something.

I also met some great young artists, like me, just out of school or still in school who had some impressive work. Here are a few, but not all: David Gonzalez, Nick Iluzada, Hannah Lee (also a parsons alumn), Connie Wong, and Eveline Tarunadjala.

I'm looking forward to ICON 7, where ever it may be held!

But until then, I gotta get crackin'!

Merci Registry

Such a brilliant idea!
Launched by Scout Holiday, Merci Registry, allows you to customize your own gift registry. Only bad thing is that it has a fee, but I guess it beats getting a lame-o gift that won't be used.

Check it out!
